About Juls
Julio Mendoza, known as Juls, is a Denver-based multi-disciplinary artist whose work celebrates his cultural heritage through a distinctive style he calls "Surrealismo Cultural" or "Cultural Surrealism." His art centers on themes of Cultural Identity, Community, and Social Justice, creating pieces that resonate deeply with diverse audiences.
Born in El Paso, TX, and raised in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Juls’ artistic vision is profoundly shaped by his experiences growing up in a border town. His work reflects his Mexican roots and Latino culture, drawing inspiration from his bicultural upbringing. This unique perspective is woven into his creations, allowing him to explore and express complex cultural narratives.
Juls has painted large-scale murals across Colorado and has also completed significant public murals and art projects in Mexico. His murals are more than just visual experiences—they are cultural dialogues that connect communities and celebrate heritage.
Juls says of his work, “I am who I am because of my Mexican and Latino heritage. Incorporating my heritage into my art is deeply meaningful to me, and I believe it resonates with others who share that sentiment.” For Juls, the greatest gift is the ability to draw inspiration from his traditions, food, people, and vibrant cultural colors. He sees it as a blessing to channel these influences into his art, using them to inspire others and foster a sense of cultural pride and unity.
