8” x 10”-Fine Art Gicleé printed on archival paper. 1/4 inch white border. Signed, titled and embossed by the artist.
Artist Statement – Raíces y Sacrificios
Raíces y Sacrificios is a reflection on the labor, love, and resilience of immigrant families. I wanted to honor the working hands—manos trabajadoras, manos que proveen—that sustain and nurture entire generations. In this piece, the hands become more than physical forms; they are vessels of memory, sacrifice, and the promise of a better life.
The colorful maíz tells a layered story: the two on the sides embody the parents who left everything behind, risking their lives and uprooting themselves so that their children could grow in fertile soil. The maíz in the middle represents the child, either born in the United States or brought here at a young age, carrying both the weight and the beauty of that sacrifice.
Below, the field reminds us that every dream has roots in labor—the unseen work that often goes unrecognized but is essential to survival and growth.
Through this painting, I hope to create a space where viewers can see the dignity and strength in immigrant narratives, and to remind us that our futures are cultivated by the sacrifirces of those who came before us.
