Inspired by Tonantzin and Coatlicue, this print goes deeper than just imagery, it’s about the blending of worlds.
Over time, those worlds came together. What we see now is a form of spiritual syncretism, a fusion of Indigenous and Catholic beliefs that allowed our culture and identity to survive and keep evolving.
In this piece, Coatlicue holds that original, powerful mother energy - the force of life, death, and rebirth - while elements of the Virgen, like the praying hands and aura, live within her. Together, they become Tonantzin - a symbol of continuity, resilience, and cultural memory.
Hidden messages are layered throughout the piece, speaking to resilience in the face of those who try to erase or attack our communities.
